Glendale police Thursday sought public help to identify a bicyclist who crashed into a woman who was crossing a street, causing her to hit her head on the ground.

The hit-and-run occurred about 6 p.m. Tuesday at Brand Boulevard and Caruso Avenue.

“The 64-year-old woman was legally crossing the street in a marked crosswalk,” said Glendale police Sgt. Robert William. “A bicyclist that was traveling southbound on Brand Boulevard failed to stop at the red light and collided into the pedestrian. The force of the collision caused the pedestrian to fall on the ground and strike her head on the asphalt.”

The bicyclist was described only as a male who was wearing a dark jacket.

“(He) was fully aware of what occurred and fled the scene,” William said. “The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with significant head and facial injuries requiring surgery.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who has any information on the case was urged to call the Glendale Police Department at (818) 548-4911.
