
A man was in custody Wednesday on suspicion of stabbing another man, who drove from the scene of the attack in a minivan that crashed into a pedestrian, fatally injuring him, police said.
Haroution Stepanyan of Glendale, 24, was arrested on Tuesday at a Glendale restaurant and was booked on suspicion of murder, with bail set at $3 million. He was set to appear in court Wednesday in Burbank.
About 5:40 p.m. on Dec. 9, a minivan whose driver had been stabbed struck and killed Rodolfo Tan of Burbank, 52, at Olive Avenue and San Fernando Boulevard, Burbank Police Lt. Scott Meadows said. Tan died at a hospital.
The driver of the minivan, a 33-year-old Glendale man, was taken to a hospital and survived.
“Burbank police detectives discovered that an altercation and stabbing preceding the collision took place on Palm Avenue between Glenoaks Boulevard and Third Street, adjacent to the Burbank Police Department,” Burbank police Sgt. Derek Green said.
“Detectives located surveillance video showing the attack, the suspect, and the suspect’s vehicle,” Green said. “The ensuing investigation led detectives to identify the suspect.”
On Monday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed criminal charges of murder and attempted murder against Stepanyan, Green said.
