A police dog was something of a hero when it helped nab a suspected killer after a family argument turned violent.

A man was killed and a woman critically injured Friday in an attack in Inglewood, and police arrested the victims’ former son-in-law after a standoff with officers.

Police were dispatched about 12:45 p.m. to investigate a report of people fighting at a home in the 3700 block of 106th Street, according to Inglewood police Lt. Jacqueline Layne.

“When responding officers arrived, they discovered that a male and a female adult had been physically attacked by their daughter’s ex-husband,” Layne said.

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel.

“The female was transported to a local hospital, where she is listed in critical condition,” Layne said.

The suspect, meanwhile, barricaded himself atop the roof of the home. He eventually climbed down, and was arrested with the help of a police dog.

“Investigators are in the process of determining what type of weapon was used,” Layne said.

Nearby Morningside High School was placed on lockdown as a precaution until the suspect was taken into custody after 3 p.m.

The names of the suspect and the victims were not immediately available.
