A suspected wife beater brought traffic to a halt on a crowded and closed Pacific Coast Highway after he crashed a vehicle into another vehicle in Malibu while being chased by deputies.
The collision occurred on Pacific Coast Highway near Webb Way, according to Lt. Ed Winslow, watch commander of the sheriff’s Malibu-Lost Hills Station.
The alleged battery had occurred about 3:30 p.m. and deputies were looking for the man, who crashed soon after they tried to pull him over as rush hour was getting under way on the heavily traveled PCH Monday about 4 p.m., Winslow said.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department took one person to a hospital.
Winslow said the patient had been in the vehicle struck by the suspect’s vehicle.
That person’s condition was not disclosed.
Pacific Coast Highway was closed in both directions between Malibu Canyon Road and Cross Creek Road in Malibu until late in the evening to accommodate an investigation into the crash, according to the sheriff’s department.
Traffic was backed up on Pacific Coast Highway in both directions, according to Malibu Emergency Services.
