The suspected hit-and-run killer of a woman riding her bicycle in the early morning darkness in Pico Rivera was in custody Saturday.
A passerby discovered the fatally injured woman about 2 a.m. Friday on Rosemead Boulevard just south of Rex Road and notified authorities, according to Sgt. Wilson Wong of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies on patrol several hours later in the area of Whittier Boulevard and Saragosa Street spotted a bluish-gray 2005 Honda Accord and pulled it over at the intersection of Pioneer Boulevard and Saragosa Street for several vehicle code violations, Wong said.
During their investigation, they noticed the Honda had “extensive damage” to its front end, he said.
“It was determined the vehicle matched the description of the vehicle involved in the fatal hit and run traffic collision which occurred early in the morning,” Wong said.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the driver, 21-year-old Berta Ramirez of Pico Rivera, on suspicion of felony hit and run involving injury, according to Wong.
Ramirez was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, Wong said.
The victim’s name was not immediately available.
