Police Thursday were investigating a threat directed at a physician at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.
Officers went to the medical center in the 15000 block of Rinaldi Street about 9:50 a.m. and were working to determine if the threat — the nature of which was not disclosed — was credible, according to police and hospital officials.
Hospital officials initiated a three-hour lockdown “after learning of a threat made against a physician,” hospital spokeswoman Patricia Aidem said in a statement released early Thursday afternoon.
“The hospital remains under controlled access, allowing visitors and employees to come and go through the front entrance only,” Aidem said.
“During this high-security effort to ensure safety of patients, visitors and staff, the hospital was temporarily closed to ambulances. That restriction has been lifted,” Aidem said. “Providence regularly trains for such emergencies and acted in an abundance of caution to ensure safety.”
No injuries or arrests have been reported.
