Eight lucky relatives apparently were without serious injury Monday after their van drove off a Palos Verdes Estates road, tumbled down an 800-foot cliff and overturned.
The driver of the van told authorities she lost control of the vehicle. She was transporting relatives who were visiting Southern California from the Philippines.
Five of the relatives were sent to the hospital for observation, authorities said Monday, while three managed to get out of the overturned van by themselves without apparent injury.
It happened about 8:15 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Via del Monte, said Palos Verdes Estates police Corporal Dave Blitz.
The woman in her 50s who was driving the passenger van told police she lost control of the van, which went 800 feet down a hill and overturned, Blitz said.
Firefighters extricated five people from the van and three got out on their own, he said. Five people were taken to hospitals for observation including one with a mild concussion.
The woman told police she was transporting seven relatives who were visiting from the Philippines, Blitz said.
