Cal State Fullerton police stepped up patrols Thursday on campus after a woman student was forced to run into a nearby building to escape a man mumbling lewd comments who then threatened her life.

“You’re my beautiful angel,” police said the suspect told the frightened woman. “If I can’t have you, I’m going to have to kill you.”

The student was walking on campus about 4:10 p.m. Wednesday when the suspect began following her, according to Capt. Scot Wiley of the campus police department.

The suspect was “mumbling lewd comments,” Wiley said. “She only caught a couple of words, but she understood the gist of what he was saying.”

Then the suspect, who was walking a bike alongside her, said “something along the lines of, `You’re my beautiful angel. If I can’t have you I’m going to have to kill you,’ ” Wiley said.

The student dashed into University Hall to seek help, and when she came out with someone, the suspect fled on the bicycle, Wiley said.

The suspect is possibly Latino with a light complexion and has a shaved head. He is in his 30s or 40s and is about 6 feet tall, Wiley said. He wore blue Dickie pants and a blue windbreaker, he said.

The victim said she saw the man change into a red Pendleton shirt before fleeing.

Police were looking for surveillance video to get a better description, Wiley said.

“We’ve stepped up patrols closer to campus and we’re making our officers highly visible in case anyone needs an escort or has information on the suspect,” Wiley said.
