A 22-year-old man was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in state prison for a DUI crash that killed a newly engaged couple from Long Beach last summer.

Andrew Vincente Simbana-Nunez pleaded guilty April 4 to two felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in connection with the June 21 crash that killed Brian Urquia, 30, and Rosanna Williams, 28.

Simbana-Nunez was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed head-on into the vehicle containing the victims near Paramount Boulevard and Frankel Street in Lakewood, according to Deputy District Attorney Jessica Bowlin.

Urquia and Williams died instantly, the prosecutor said.
