A stolen vehicle suspect who led police on a brief chase Wednesday in Azusa was arrested after a more than seven-hour search that prompted the lockdown of two schools.
A LoJack hit on the SUV being driven by the suspect led to the chase around 8:30 a.m., according to Azusa police Officer Mike Bires.
The chase ended in the area of Second Street and Orange Avenue, where the suspect fled on foot, Bires said.
Officers cordoned off the area and urged people to stay inside their homes while Slauson Middle School and Mountain View Elementary were locked down as a precaution, police said.
There was no threat to those facilities and all students were safe, police said as the search continued into the afternoon.
The suspect, whose name and age were not released, was found about 4 p.m. hiding in a garage and the perimeter was broken down and the school lockdowns were lifted, Bires said.
A sheriff’s department helicopter assisted in the search, police said.
