A 16-year-old girl riding in a car that collided with another vehicle in Long Beach on Memorial Day remains hospitalized in grave condition with head injuries, police said Thursday.

The crash occurred about 4 p.m. Monday at Artesia Boulevard and Myrtle Avenue, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

The critically injured teen, whose name has not been released, was one of four passengers in a 2012 Nissan Altima driven by a 22-year-old Victorville woman. The Nissan hit a light pole, trapping her inside, after colliding with a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro driven by a 33-year-old Long Beach man, police said.

The Camaro driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, was uninjured. “However, all five occupants in the Altima did not appear to have their seatbelts fastened, causing traumatic injuries to all occupants,” according to a police statement.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision, police said. Anyone with information on the crash was urged to call Detective Steve Fox at (562) 570-7355.
