Police Thursday circulated security video of a man and five women wanted for committing a “distraction theft” at a Montrose jewelry store.

The crime occurred about 6:15 p.m. June 14 at Honolulu Jewelers, 2250 Honolulu Ave., according to Tahnee Lightfoot of the Glendale Police Department, which patrols the area.

Two of the suspects approached the store owner as he was closing “and asked if they could make a quick purchase,” Lightfoot said.

“The store owner agreed and the six suspects entered the store,” Lightfoot said. “One female made a small cash purchase while the other suspects adamantly asked to try on or look at other pieces of jewelry.”

While the store employees were distracted tending to the suspects’ requests, a female suspect went behind the counter and removed a large amount of jewelry from an open safe, placing the items in a hidden pocket of her floor-length skirt, Lightfoot said.

She left the store when confronted by an employee, and she was followed out of the business by the other five suspects, Lightfoot said.

The women were of various ages between 25 and 50, and the man was about 30, Lightfoot said. All spoke with some type of foreign accent.

A reward of up to $1,000 was offered by Crime Stoppers for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call (818) 548-4911.
