A dog owner was arrested Monday on suspicion of animal cruelty for allegedly dragging a pet Doberman puppy on a leash and injuring the animal, authorities said.

Eljin Holt, 25, was booked on suspicion of felony animal cruelty, said Ana Bustilloz of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles.

Holt is in custody on $20,000 bail and no court date has been set, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The dog, named Indie, was placed in protective custody.

“In December … spcaLA humane officers responded to an animal cruelty tip on the 5700 block of West Centinela Avenue,” Bustilloz said.

“Upon investigation, officers discovered an eyewitness who saw Holt dragging Indie on concrete using a leash, causing Indie to bleed from his nails,” Bustilloz said.

“Holt was also seen yanking Indie with the leash causing Indie to flip into the air,” Bustilloz said. “Witnesses reported hearing Indie yelping and crying loudly within Holt’s apartment.”

Investigators obtained cell phone videos from witnesses, and also reviewed the apartment building’s security video in preparing their case, Bustilloz said.
