Would you risk your life for a $30,000 watch?

One man would, while another man took no chances.

Authorities Tuesday sought public help to find two armed men who robbed a man of his $30,000 wristwatch in West Hollywood.

The crime occurred about 10:15 p.m. Monday in the 8500 block of Melrose Avenue, where the suspects approached two men standing on the sidewalk, according to sheriff’s Deputy Grace Medrano.

“The first suspect pointed a handgun at one of the victims and demanded the victim’s Audemars Piguet wristwatch, valued at $30,000,” Medrano said. “Fearing for his safety, the victim handed over his watch to the suspect.”

The second suspect then demanded the wristwatch worn by the other victim, who saw a handgun in the suspect’s waistband, Medrano said.

“The victim — not willing to give up his wristwatch — pushed the suspect away from him,” she said, and the suspects then ran off.

A check of the Internet shows $30,000 for a Piguet watch may sound expensive, but some models go for well over $100,000.

Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call detectives at (310) 358-4041, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
