A hail of bullets, a dead woman and two critically injured men in a car that crashed into a tree made for a difficult murder mystery Sunday as police hunted the killer.

LAPD officers found numerous shell casing scattered across the street when they arrived at the Westlake neighborhood death scene.

Police said the killer apparently fled on foot after firing numerous rounds into the four-door sedan.

No motive for the attack was available from police, and they did not say if the murdered woman or one of the men may have been driving the death car.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responding at 10:49 p.m. Saturday night found the car crashed into a tree in the 400 block of Witmer Street.

No additional details were made available by police, but they asked anyone with information about the attack to contact them.
