A man apparently fatally shot himself after barricading himself in his West Covina home, authorities said Tuesday.

Officers went to the 1300 block of West Roxbury Street about 9:30 p.m. Monday in response to a report of a man with a gun, said West Covina police Lt. P. Benschop.

Peter Abraham, 46, was found dead inside his residence of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound about 1:10 a.m., said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. An autopsy was pending.

Officers had met with three of the home’s residents outside, and as they were speaking, the officers heard what sounded like a gunshot come from inside the home, prompting a West Covina police SWAT team to respond, Benschop said.

Authorities used robots to enter the home, and they found Abraham dead, Benschop said.
