A man in Hawthorne stabbed his child’s mother to death and then killed himself with a self-inflicted stab wound to the chest, the Sheriff’s Department said Sunday.
The child was not injured, said Deputy Kelvin Moody of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Hawthorne police officers were dispatched a little after 10 p.m. Saturday to the 3600 block of West 132nd Street regarding an “assault with a deadly weapon” and were told a domestic dispute had occurred, Moody said.

When they arrived they found a woman unconscious and with several stab wounds to the torso. They also found a man with a self-inflicted stab wound to the chest, he said.
The couple were rushed to an area hospital, where they were both pronounced dead, he said.
“The victim and the suspect were co-habitants,” Moody said. “They had been arguing prior to the incident and had one minor child in common. The child was not injured during the incident.”
