Three transients were in custody Friday for allegedly robbing a Pomona wireless phone store at gunpoint, but a fourth suspect remained at large.
The suspects in custody were identified as Jeremiah Wadding and Karon Knight, both 18, and Joseph Hernandez, 25, said Pomona Police Cpl. Joe Hernandez, adding all three are from the Pomona area.
Police were called about 5 p.m. Thursday by a witness who saw two suspects — wearing masks and at least one armed with a handgun — exit the Metro PCS store in the 300 block of East Holt Avenue, police said.
The witness reported seeing the suspects get into a getaway vehicle and provided police its direction of travel. The vehicle was stopped in the area of Third and Locust streets, where two suspects fled on foot, police said.
“Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle in the area of Mission Boulevard and Garey Avenue, where two suspects were stopped and detained,” Joe Hernandez said. “Evidence of the robbery was located in the vehicle.”
Officers got the descriptions of two outstanding suspects from witnesses and a victim.
A helicopter crew spotted someone matching one of the outstanding suspects’ description. The suspect realized he was being tracked and took off running, climbing over several fences before fleeing into a large apartment complex, according to police.
Officers surrounded the area and with the help of a police dog found the suspect hiding in a third-floor laundry room, police said.
“The canine was used to apprehend the suspect,” Joe Hernandez said. “No officers were injured during this incident.”
One suspect remains outstanding, but no description of him was made available.
Knight and Joseph Hernandez were each being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond and Wadding was being held without bail, according to online inmate records. All three are due in Pomona Superior Court Monday.
