Police Monday asked anyone who may have witnessed a weekend collision that killed a bicyclist in Santa Monica to contact traffic investigators.

Kazumasa Nozaki died at the scene of the collision, which occurred about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to the coroner’s office and Santa Monica police. His home town was not known.

The motorist initially left the scene, but returned and was questioned, said Santa Monica police Lt. Saul Rodriguez.

“A preliminary investigation revealed the bicyclist was riding his bicycle northbound along PCH,” Rodriguez said. “The involved vehicle was traveling northbound along PCH and struck the bicyclist from the rear. The driver is cooperating with the investigation and there have been no preliminary indications the driver was impaired.”

Police shut down all northbound lanes of PCH from Lincoln to Chautauqua boulevards during the investigation.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call traffic investigators at (310) 458-8954.
