A woman was killed and two other people were wounded in a shooting between two party buses early Saturday morning near the heavily trafficked Santa Monica Pier tourist center.
Police forced pedestrians and vehicles away from the area after shots rang out at about 1 a.m. around Ocean and Colorado avenues, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
The woman died at the scene and the surviving victims were taken to hospitals with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
Officers are looking for at least two suspects, but possibly up to four, who were seen running toward Pacific Coast Highway that runs below the pier.
The shooting occurred between what police believe were two groups of people traveling on separate private or “party” buses.
The transition road of the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway to Pacific Coast Highway was closed by the California Highway Patrol during the initial search for the suspects. The road was reopened at 3:45 a.m.
Police advised the public to avoid the area.
