A La Puente man was sentenced Tuesday to 21 years to life in state prison for knife attacks on two men in a Covina parking lot in 2015.
Louis Vasquez, 22, pleaded no contest Sept. 5 to two counts of attempted murder for the Jan. 31, 2015, attacks in the 100 block of North Azusa Avenue. He also admitted a gang allegation, along with allegations that he personally inflicted great bodily injury and used a knife during the commission of the crime.
A 27-year-old man who was walking through the parking lot was cut on his right shoulder and left knee, while an 18-year-old clerk who was retrieving shopping carts was stabbed in the back of his right shoulder, police said.
Witnesses provided a description of the suspect, and officers set up a containment area. Vasquez was arrested that night after residents in the 800 block of West Edna Place reported a man running through backyards.
