The bloody body with its arm cut off and sliced neck looked like something from a horror movie, but Pasadena police say officers arriving at the grisly scene also found a chainsaw on the ground and a ladder as evidence of a tragic accident.
The coroner’s office has now identified the victim who fell off that ladder and was sliced by the chainsaw in a doomed effort to trim a tree in Pasadena.
Robert Milliken, 59, was found dead at about 10 a.m. Dec. 4 outside his house in the 2900 block of New York Drive, according to the coroner’s office and Pasadena authorities.
A relative who hadn’t heard from Milliken in a number of days contacted Pasadena police officers and asked them to check, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
“On arrival, officers located the victim, a lifeless male adult,” Pasadena police Chief Philip Sanchez said. “Evidence at the scene suggested the victim suffered fatal lacerations while attempting to trim a large tree branch.”
Milliken suffered a severed arm and serious cut to his neck, according to Pasadena officials. It appeared the man was up on a ladder using a chainsaw when he fell, Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.
Police were investigating the death as an apparent accident.
