Authorities Wednesday identified a 12-year-old boy who was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Santa Fe Springs that left his father facing possible charges that included vehicular manslaughter.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Slauson Avenue and Dice Road, according to the Whittier Police Department, which also serves Santa Fe Springs.

Jesus Tamayo of Bell Gardens died at a hospital, according to the coroner’s office and Whittier police. Another person was hospitalized with injuries of unknown severity.

Whittier police Officer John Scoggins said the boy’s father, 45-year- old Jesus Ibarra Tamayo of Bell Gardens, was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, child endangerment and possession of a controlled substance.

The substance Tamayo is suspected of possessing was being tested, according to Scoggins, who said it was not marijuana.
