It was a rough day for passengers on the Metro Blue Line train, after service was disrupted by a crash and electrical problems.

An electrical power problem Thursday morning caused lasting disruptions on Metro’s Blue Line rail service in Long Beach.

The problem was reported about 7:30 a.m., in the area of Long Beach Avenue and 10th Street, between the Anaheim and 5th Street stations, said Jose Ubaldo of Metro.

Train service was immediately suspended from the Willow to the Downtown Long Beach stations, Ubaldo said.

Blue Line trains operated from Los Angeles to the Willow Station, with a train shuttle making stops at the Willow, PCH and Anaheim stations, Ubaldo said Thursday afternoon.

Other stations, including those at Fifth Street, First Street, Downtown Long Beach and Pacific Avenue, were serviced by a Metro bus shuttle.

Metro announced about 6:45 p.m. that the problem had been resolved and service was returning to normal.

“Metro is investigating the cause of this incident,” Ubaldo said.

As officials were working to get service back on schedule Thursday, a Metro Blue Line train collided with a car near downtown Los Angeles.

The non-injury collision, reported about 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Maple Avenue, involved a northbound train traveling between Long Beach and the 7th Street/Metro Center stations, according to Ubaldo.

The collision forced the temporary use of a single track through the area, causing delayed service, Ubaldo said.

Service returned to normal by about 5:15 p.m.
