Authorities were working Saturday to determine what caused an explosion at a Westlake motel, which left one person slightly injured and caused structural damage to the building’s top floor.

The explosion at the three-story motel at 946 S. Bonnie Brae St. was reported at 6:15 p.m. Friday, said Tony Handy of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The explosion occurred on the third floor near the roof, Handy said. The damage was confined to that floor.

One man was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor burns, Handy said.

Firefighters, Los Angeles police and arson investigators were called to the scene to determine cause, Handy said.
