Sheriff’s detectives were searching Wednesday for the gunman who shot and killed a man during an argument in the parking lot of a Compton shopping center.
The shooting was reported at about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 2100 block of North Long Beach Boulevard, according to Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Deputies responded to the location to investigate a report of shots fired and a person wounded and learned the 28-year-old victim had gotten into an argument with the suspect, who “produced a handgun and shot the victim at least one time in the torso,” Navarro-Suarez said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
The suspect fled north on Bullis Road in an unknown-type vehicle.
A description of the gunman was not immediately available.
It was unclear if the shooting was gang-related, according to Navarro- Suarez, who said the weapon used was not immediately recovered.
