Authorities Tuesday identified a woman who was fatally injured when the small car in which she was riding stopped without lights on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass and was rear-ended by another car.
The crash occurred about 12:35 a.m. Sunday at Moraga Drive. Qingwen Zhu, 29, of Laguna Hills died at a hospital, the coroner’s office reported.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Zhu was riding in a Mini Cooper that had come to a stop for unknown reasons in the No. 3 lane with its lights out. The car was then hit from behind by a Nissan Sentra that was going about 65 mph, the CHP reported.
Paramedics took Zhu, along with the Mini Cooper driver and the Nissan driver, to a hospital, where Zhu died. The two drivers were hospitalized with major injuries, the CHP reported.
The northbound freeway was closed for about two hours while an investigation was conducted.
