A Snapchat message addressed to “BHS” students threatening a school shooting caused officials to beef up patrols at Bonita High School in La Verne, even though the posting appears to have targeted a high school in New Mexico, police said.
The message Thursday was received by schools in several states, according to La Verne police.
“An ongoing investigation has revealed that the Snapchat message originated in the state of New Mexico” where a suspect has been taken into custody, according to a police statement.
“The message appears to target a school in Belen, New Mexico. However as a precautionary measure (the) La Verne Police Department will have extra officers patrolling on and around the Bonita High School campus … .”
The message, police say, has gone viral and continues to be shared on social media, police said.
