The search by Santa Ana police continued Sunday to find a bipolar, schizophrenic man with a drug habit and the mental capacity of a 12-year-old who disappeared while walking with his father.

Jose Rigoberto Silva, 25, was with his father about noon Thursday near a state office building in the 600 block of West Santa Ana Boulevard when he wandered off, Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. Silva used the restroom and then went missing a few minutes later.

Silva has a methamphetamine habit and has a history of running away from his father to hang out with transients who show him how to panhandle for money to buy drugs, Bertagna said.

Silva is unfamiliar with Santa Ana and does not have a phone with him, the corporal said.

Silva is 5-feet-4 and weighs about 200 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and gray sweat pants with a white stripe along each side, Bertagna said.

Anyone with information was asked to call detectives at (714) 245-8408 or (714) 245-8000 or 911.
