An ex-con who police said racked a sawed-off shotgun and pointed it at his ex-girlfriend when she knocked on his front door pleaded guilty Monday to being a prohibited person in possession of firearms and was immediately sentenced to nearly three years in state prison.
Marvin Manning, 51, of Palm Springs, entered his plea to four felony counts of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, plus a misdemeanor count of possessing drug paraphernalia for a pair of methamphetamine pipes found in his home. A felony charge of assault with a gun was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Court documents state that the woman, whose name was withheld, went to Manning’s home on Sunview Avenue just before midnight last Sept. 21 to pick up some clothes. He asked who was knocking, and after she identified herself, he opened the door while pointing a sawed-off shotgun at her, according to police and prosecutors.
Officers responded and established a perimeter around the home. He exited the house about 10 minutes later and police searched the home, where they found two shotguns, a semi-automatic rifle and ammunition, court documents state.
Manning was not permitted to own the weapons due to prior convictions for robbery and possession of controlled substances.
