A homeless man was killed in a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning near the Venice Boardwalk.
The crash occurred just before 1:30 a.m. in the area of Speedway and Wavecrest Court, according to reports from the scene.
The victim was sleeping on the ground in a sleeping bag when he was struck, NBC4 reported.
The suspect vehicle was traveling the wrong way down Speedway. In addition to running over the victim, the vehicle also ran into a pole, authorities said.
Police are looking for a black or dark blue GMC Yukon or a Chevy Tahoe. The vehicle has rear-end damage from backing into a pole and a wall, Capt. Gary Walters of the Los Angeles Police Department told reporters at the scene.
