Authorities asked for the public’s help Thursday in identifying the suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a bicyclist in the Pico-Union area.

The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. last Thursday in the 1600 block of West 11th Street, near Union Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim, identified as 39-year-old Jamel Lewis, was riding his bicycle when he was approached and shot by the suspect.

Lewis was taken to California Hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.

Lewis, who lived in the area, is survived by his mother, uncle and aunt, police said.

“The family is asking for the public’s help to have some closure and bring justice to the suspects who committed this heinous crime,” police said.
