A teacher at Hurley Elementary School in La Puente is set to be arraigned next week on misdemeanor child molesting charges involving five female students.
Carlos Munguia, 46, was arrested April 12 by Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators and was released that evening on a $100,000 bond, according to jail records.
Munguia was charged April 9 with five misdemeanor counts of child molesting, and his arraignment is scheduled next Tuesday in a West Covina courtroom.
The criminal complaint alleges that the crimes occurred between September 2015 and February 2018.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said he could not comment about where the alleged crimes occurred.
In a statement, the Rowland Unified School District said it “takes all allegations of employee misconduct seriously in order to protect our students and staff.”
“We received concerns last month and immediately an investigation began and authorities were notified,” according to the district’s statement, which called the safety and well-being of their students and staff their highest priority.
“The employee was placed on paid administrative leave once the investigation began,” the district said in the statement, noting that it will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement.
