A motorist was killed in a single-crash near the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in unincorporated Los Angeles County, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.
The crash on southbound Rosemead Boulevard, south of the Pomona (60) Freeway occurred about 3:40 p.m. Saturday, the CHP reported.
A 25-year-old man in a 2001 Honda Accord driving in the No. 2 lane of traffic moved into the No. 1 lane due to traffic slowing ahead.
“As the driver executed an unsafe turning movement towards the left, the Honda continued traveling onto the center island, left of the number one lane,” the CHP said. “Due to the driver’s unsafe turning movement, the left front tire of the Honda collided into the center island raised concrete curb.”
The motorist, a resident of Downey, lost control of the car, as it swerved toward the right shoulder, ultimately striking the driver’s side door and slamming into the electrical pole on the right dirt shoulder.
The motorist, the lone occupant inside the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The CHP’s East Los Angeles office asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (323) 980-4600.
