Officials have arrested a suspect in connection with an assault and robbery caught on camera at a Best Buy store in West Hollywood.

Los Angeles police arrested Darren Richmond, 37, on Tuesday for a separate, unrelated crime, said Deputy Armando Viera Jr. of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“Once in custody, the detectives at LAPD noticed Richmond looked very similar to the Best Buy robbery suspect from the day before,” Viera said. “They contacted West Hollywood (sheriff’s) station to advise our detectives of the similarities.”

West Hollywood detectives, after a booking photo comparison and follow-up investigation, were able to determine Richmond was the suspect from the Best Buy robbery.

The violent crime occurred about 7:50 p.m. Monday at the electronics store in the 1000 block of La Brea Avenue, according to Sgt. Jeffrey Bishop of the sheriff’s West Hollywood Station.

The suspect was seen pacing throughout the store, casually eating a bag of Cheetos, before he approached a man from behind and, without apparent provocation, unleashed a punch to the head that sent the unsuspecting victim to the floor.

“After the assault, the suspect picked up the victim’s cell phone and fled from the store on foot through the rear emergency exit door and out of view,” Bishop said.

Detectives asked anyone with information regarding the Best Buy robbery to call them at (310) 855-8850.
