A 26-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in Westminster for allegedly firing a gun at a victim a day earlier.

Police responded about 6:30 p.m. Monday to investigate a report of a shooting in the 5500 block of Rochelle Avenue, where they found the unharmed victim, but not the suspect, who had fled prior to officers’ arrival, according to Westminster Police Department Sgt. Eddie Esqueda.

Just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the area of Westminster Boulevard and University Avenue after getting a report that the suspect, identified as Jeffrey Ivora of Westminster, was at the location, Esqueda said.

Westminster police detectives and SWAT officers surrounded a home where Ivora was believed to be hiding and neighboring homes and a nearby school were placed on lockdown before the suspect was located and arrested, according to Esqueda, who said Ivora was booked into the county jail on suspicion of attempted murder.

No reason was given for why Ivora shot at the victim.

“This could have been a volatile situation if not for the rapid response by our officers, and SWAT team,” Esqueda said. “The safety of the community was of primary concern and thankfully no one was injured.”
