One person was detained and questioned by fire investigators and police Wednesday morning after three people were hurt, including a man who suffered traumatic burn injuries, in a fire at a three-story apartment building in Santa Ana.
Firefighters were called just after midnight to Saddleback Lodge in the 1600 block of East First Street and the first company to arrive reported heavy fire coming from the second and third floors, according to Captain Tony Bommarito of the Orange County Fire Authority.
A third alarm was requested and nearly 80 firefighters took about 43 minutes to extinguish the blaze, Bommarito said.
At least eight units were damaged or destroyed and 18 people were displaced, he said. The Red Cross was called in to help those displaced.
In addition to the man who suffered traumatic burn injuries and was listed in critical condition, a woman suffered burns to her feet and another woman suffered minor injuries, said Bommarito.
