Authorities Monday identified a man who investigators say stabbed his sister before he was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Culver City.
The shooting occurred about 1:45 p.m Saturday in the 4100 block of Mentone Avenue, Deputy Marvin Crowder of the sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
Michael Harrison, 30, died at a hospital, according to the coroner’s office. His home town was not known.
“(The) Culver City Police Department responded to an apartment complex on the 10400 block of Culver Boulevard,” Crowder said. “The call was regarding a domestic incident between a brother and sister.”
Officers en route to the 4100 block of Mentone Avenue received an update regarding a man chasing a woman with a knife, Crowder said.
“Once officers arrived, they contacted the male and the male charged officers with the knife, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred,” Crowder said.
The 27-year-old woman suffered multiple stab wounds to her upper body and was taken to a hospital where she was expected to survive.
Witnesses had reported seeing a bloody woman running down an alley, screaming for help, according to sources at the scene.
A large kitchen knife was recovered, Crowder said, and no other injuries were reported. Sheriff’s homicide detectives were assisting Culver City police with the investigation.
