A Hawthorne woman pleaded no contest Thursday to charges she led police on a wild chase in a U-Haul truck that ended with the vehicle slamming into a patrol car in Los Angeles last November.

Shante Johnson, also known as Nine Lives, was arrested last Nov. 9 after leading police on a chase that started near 61st Street and Broadway Avenue and ended with the U-Haul truck — which authorities said had been reported stolen — hitting the patrol car.

She ran into a downtown produce market, where she was quickly captured.

The 36-year-old woman pleaded no contest to one felony count each of fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s vehicle while driving recklessly and assault with a deadly weapon — a vehicle — on a police officer, along with one misdemeanor count of hit-and-run driving resulting in property damage, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. She also admitted that she had a 2014 conviction for petty theft with priors.

Johnson was immediately sentenced to five years probation and is required to complete a one-year residential drug abuse and mental health program, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

A judge suspended a state prison term of six years and eight months that she faces if she violates the terms of her probation.
