Hip hop artist Trey Songz is being sued by a woman who alleges he choked and punched her “in a jealousy-fueled fit of rage” earlier this year at a Los Angeles home he rented.
Andrea Buera’s Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit, filed Friday, alleges domestic violence, assault, battery, false imprisonment and both intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress. She’s seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
A representative for the 33-year-old Songz, whose real name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, could not be immediately reached for comment.
Songz and Buera met in Las Vegas in 2015 and developed a “casual relationship,” according to the suit filed by her attorney, Lisa Bloom. The plaintiff went to a party at a Los Angeles home the singer was renting on Feb. 17 and was talking with an artist named Chisianity when Songz walked up and began shouting at her, the suit alleges.
Buera alleges she walked away, but Songz followed her, then charged toward her and choked her.
“Ms. Buera struggled to free herself only to be punched several times by (Songz) directly in her face,” according to the suit, which says the alleged assaults occurred “in a jealousy-fueled fit of rage.”
Buera twice tried to call for an Uber driver, but Songz took two cellphones from her and threw them “beyond her line of sight,” according to the suit.
The complaint alleges he refused her pleas to be allowed to leave, telling her, “You’re going to go home when I tell you you’re going to go home.”
Songz later apologized for his actions and admitted to being jealous, according to the suit, which says he gave her $2,000 to compensate her for her cellphones and called a Lyft driver to take her home.
Buera woke up the next morning crying, with her left eye swollen shut and contusions and scratches on her upper body and legs, according to her complaint, which says she continues to experience emotional distress and “lives in a heightened state of anxiety and fear for her safety and life.”
