The coroner’s office Monday released the name of a man fatally wounded in Whittier in what sheriff’s deputies believe was a gang-related shooting.
He was Marcelino Chavez, 23, coroner’s Investigator Jerry McKibben said. His city of residence was not available.
Chavez was found at 11:07 p.m. Saturday at a home on the 11600 block of Nan Street in Whittier and pronounced dead at the scene, Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
Investigators said three men in a flat-bed style truck drove up to the home where two of them got out, went inside and confronted the man, He was shot several times, Koerner said.
Afterward, the two men got back into the truck, which headed west on Nan Street. deputies said.
“At this time, the shooting is believed to be gang related,” Koerner said.
