A suspected drunken motorist in a pickup truck struck a patrol car in Bell, while trying to elude authorities during a pursuit that began in South Los Angeles Sunday morning.
The suspect, Robert Jimenez Morales, Jr., 25, was taken into custody after getting off the San Gabriel (605) Freeway — and after a third Pursuit Intervention Technique was successful at 2:40 a.m., in the area of 55th Street and Vermont Avenue, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Deputies from the sheriff’s Century station pursued a white pickup truck at 1:55 a.m., after they tried to pull over the motorist they suspected of driving drunk.
The pursuit subsequently entered the City of Bell, where the white pickup truck struck a police car. No officers were injured in the crash.
The pursuit entered the San Gabriel (605) Freeway and units from the East Los Angeles CHP took over.
“Eventually, the pursuit entered into CHP Central L.A.’ s area and units were able to stage, intercept and take over,” the CHP said. “After exiting the freeway, and after multiple attempts, a third Pursuit Intervention Technique was successful at 55th (Street) and Vermont (Avenue), disabling the pickup truck.”
Morales, a resident of Los Angeles, was taken into custody by the CHP and transferred to the Bell Police Department.
