A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of carjacking after a short police pursuit that ended in a crash Wednesday evening in Corona.

Corona police responded about 4:20 p.m. to a carjacking in the 400 block of River Road and were told by the owner of a 2016 Honda Accord that his car had been taken and a man standing nearby had been assaulted and suffered minor injuries, according to Sgt. Chad Fountain of the Corona Police Department.

A description of the suspect and the vehicle were broadcast to officers, who located the carjacked vehicle about 6 p.m. in the 200 block of East Olive Street and tried to stop the driver, but he sped away, Fountain said.

A pursuit ensued and ended in the 700 block of North Main Street when the suspect, identified as Eric Guzman, of Corona, struck a tree, lost control of the car and hit two other vehicles, Fountain said.

Guzman was arrested and taken to a hospital with minor injuries, Fountain said. Two women in the other vehicles were injured in the crash and taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Anyone with information about the carjacking or the crash was encouraged to call Corona police Sgt. Skip Shatford at (951) 736-2423 or Sgt. Bryan Snow at (951) 739-4885.
