A 2-year-old filly was euthanized after suffering a training injury at Santa Anita Park last weekend, the ninth horse to die from a racing or training injury at the Arcadia track this year, officials confirmed Tuesday.
“Angel’s Edition sustained an injury during routine training Sunday morning. The horse was attended to by an expert team of on-site veterinarians and transported via equine ambulance to the on-site equine hospital for further examination and advanced diagnostics. Sadly, given the nature of the injury, surgical repair was not an option, and the veterinary team recommended humane euthanasia after a thorough evaluation. Her rider was not injured,” Amy Zimmerman, Santa Anita’s senior vice president and executive producer, told City News Service on Tuesday.
She added that per protocol, the horse will undergo a necropsy overseen by the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
Angel’s Edition had yet to compete in a race, according to the industry website Equibase.
