A man driving under the influence hit at least nine pedestrians Sunday in Fullerton, police said.

At 1:48 a.m., Christopher Solis, 22, of Anaheim, drove a red Toyota Tacoma onto the sidewalk, striking several people before hitting a tree and coming to a stop at 100 W. Santa Fe Ave. east of the Orange Freeway (57), according to the Fullerton Police Department.

Multiple victims were trapped underneath the vehicle but were pulled out by police and bystanders who lifted the vehicle to free them. Ten people, between ages 18 and 49, were transported to local trauma centers with moderate to critical-life threatening injuries, police said.

Dozens of people were on the street at the time, in and around restaurants and bars during closing time.

The vehicle was smoking at the time of the incident and officers said it had severe front end damage and airbags deployed. Three other vehicles sustained minor to moderate damage.

Police suspected Solis was driving under the influence of drugs and he was arrested for felony DUI causing great bodily injury.
