One person was hospitalized Tuesday morning with a gunshot wound suffered in an officer-involved shooting in Santa Ana.
The shooting occurred around 9:40 p.m. near the intersection of Evergreen and Occidental streets and involved gang unit detectives, according to Cpl. Anthony Bertanga of the Santa Ana Police Department.
A suspect was hit and a weapon was recovered at the scene, he said.
Detectives were in a patrol car in an alley between Evergreen and Occidental streets when the suspect ran out of a garage and began firing at police, striking the vehicle, NBC4 reported. The detectives stopped the vehicle and returned fire, striking the suspect in the upper body.
The suspect was hospitalized in unknown condition, NBC4 said.
The suspect’s age, gender and name were not immediately released.
There were no reports of any officers injured.
