A Northern California woman who abandoned her 6-year-old son at Union Station on Independence Day last year was ordered to complete 52 weeks of child abuse counseling and placed on four years of probation.
Dava Denise Webster, 32, of Walnut Creek, was also ordered by Superior Court Judge Gustavo Sztraicher to obey the Los Angeles County Probation Department’s recommendation for a mental health program and was given credit for time she had already served in jail following her arrest last July, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Webster was sentenced immediately after pleading no contest to felony child endangerment. A protective order was also issued that allows Webster to have monitored visits with her son, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
It was not clear who currently has custody of the boy, who was found at Union Station about 6:30 p.m. July 4 by a security guard. Webster was arrested by Los Angeles police after returning to Union Station the next day.
After a wave of media coverage seeking to identify the boy, someone who recognized the child came forward and he was reunited with family. The boy’s inability to communicate had hampered the investigation into how he ended up unattended and who had left him at Union Station, according to Los Angeles police Sgt. Hector Guzman.
