A 27-year-old man from Los Angeles and a 20-year-old woman from Buena Park were ejected from their vehicle in a two-vehicle crash in South Los Angeles and died as a result of their injuries, authorities said Thursday.

The victims were in a Ford Mustang traveling southbound on Avalon Boulevard at Rosecrans Avenue at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday when the man made a left turn onto eastbound Rosecrans directly into the path of a black Toyota Tacoma traveling northbound on Avalon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The front end of the Toyota collided with the passenger side of the Mustang, causing the Mustang to travel out of control in a northeasterly direction and hit a metal signal pole on the northeast corner of the intersection, ejecting the man and woman in the Mustang onto the sidewalk.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries, the CHP said.

The driver of the Toyota, a 24-year-old man from Los Angeles, was not seriously injured.

The names of the victims were not disclosed.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
