A city worker who fell from a tow truck in North Hollywood, hit his head on the ground and died on Friday was identified Sunday.
“Our hearts are with the family and friends of Fredy Vanegas, the @BSSLosAngeles worker who died Friday in a tragic accident. We mourn with them today, and will never forget his dedication to @LACity and commitment to service and excellence,” Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti tweeted Sunday.
The fall happened at about 3:25 p.m. Friday outside 5918 Tujunga Ave., near Oxnard Street, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“Paramedics were dispatched to the scene and they performed CPR on the injured man, but they couldn’t revive him,” Prange said.
The Mayor’s Crisis Response Team was sent to the scene to assist the other city workers at the site, Prange continued.
“It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce that one of our @BSSLosAngeles workers lost their life this afternoon at a work site around Tujunga and Oxnard,” the city’s Bureau of Street Services announced on Twitter. “Our prayers and thoughts are with the worker’s family, coworkers and the entire City family. @GMsTREEtsLA1H2O”
The incident was being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department and the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, Prange said.
