Authorities Tuesday identified a 31-year-old man who was fatally shot in La Puente in an attack that also left two men wounded.
The gunfire erupted around 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Tonopah Avenue. Responding deputies found Richard Tovalin of La Puente dead on the sidewalk from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body, according to the Los Angeles County sheriff’s and coroner’s offices.
An unidentified man was hospitalized in critical condition with two gunshot wounds to the upper chest, sheriff’s Deputy Tracy Koerner said. A third victim was treated for a bullet wound to one of his hands and was hospitalized in stable condition, she said.
Investigators learned the victims were fired upon by two men in a silver or dark-colored SUV, Koerner said, but a motive for the attack was unknown.
It was the second of three fatal shootings in La Puente over a four-day span. Last Friday night, a 31-year-old David Juarez of Los Angeles was killed and a 22-year-old man was also wounded in the 100 block of North Winton Avenue and about 2:55 p.m. Monday a man was shot and killed in the 15400 block of Temple Avenue, according to the sheriff’s department.
